Club v country row addressed

Johannesburg - The South African Football Association (SAFA) will be optimistic ahead of their press conference scheduled for later this morning at SAFA house in Johannesburg.

The country’s football ruling body in seeking clarity regarding the recent club versus country issue after SA's representatives in the CAF Champions League, Orlando Pirates, complained over their players selected for the national team.

Earlier this week, Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund announced his squad to face Nigeria in the Nelson Mandela Challenge next week and the team includes six Pirates key players - Thandani Ntshumayelo, Daine Klate, Andile Jali, Oupa Manyisa, Senzo Meyiwa and Thabo Matlaba.

The Buccaneers intend to withdraw their players as an injury precaution as they have set their sights on the CAF Champions League, but according to the FIFA calendar, SAFA have the final say on the matter.

The press conference will commence at 11:00.
