Chris Katongo to join Pirates?

Cape Town - According to reports, Golden Arrows striker Chris Katongo is set to join Orlando Pirates next season.

According to the Soccer Laduma website, Katongo, 31, will replace fellow Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma who is rumoured to be on his way out of the Pirates camp at the end of the current season.

Katongo is a former Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner in 2012 and in the same year won the BBC's African Footballer of the Year award.

Katongo also played 72 matches for Jomo Cosmos between 2004-2007.

"The deal involving Katongo joining Pirates will be announced, as soon as Golden Arrows' relegation to the NFD is confirmed," said a source close to Katongo.

Abafana Bes'thende look certain to be relegated this season, as they currently find themselves bottom the Absa Premiership standings, some nine points adrift as second-from-bottom Free State Stars with four matches remaining.

Pirates in contrast have enjoyed a far better season, and are fourth in the log.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
