Cape Town - Newly promoted Chippa United have confirmed the club will not be retaining former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Solomon Okpako.
“He is not coming back because we will not be renewing his contract. We cannot afford to have a foreign player who sits on the bench and doesn’t make a difference in the team,” Peter Koutroulis, the CEO at Chippa told the KickOff website.
The 24-year-old Nigerian has battled ever since arriving in South Africa, after starting just a single game for Sundowns during the 20011/12 season and spending most of his time either on the bench or in the stands at Chippa.
Coach Steve Komphela has already discarded Saidou Pandeteguiri, while midfielder Brent Carelse will be given the freedom to walk away from the club as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of next month.
English striker Carl Finnigan is to be assessed by the new boss before a decision is reached about whether he will be retained or released.
