Chippa retract Manzini offer

Cape Town - Chippa United have pulled the plug on signing Lerato Manzini after it emerged that the striker has a drinking problem.

The Port Elizabeth-based outfit were set to complete the deal for Manzini last week, but the former Bloemfontein Celtic sharpshooter was nowhere to be found.

Speaking with KickOff, club boss Chippa Mpengesi revealed that a deal could not be finalised as Manzini had gone AWOL.

"Yes, he went missing and his agent sent a text message that the boy has disappeared," Mpengesi said.

"We didn't sign a contract as yet and he was still to come to Cape Town. I'm not disappointed. These things happen and our pre-season is about to finish now and we can't wait for somebody who is still busy with other things.

"It [drinking problems] is one of those things and [the reason we are no longer interested] is around those things, but I don't know the boy and we just decided to withdraw our interest because we can't wait for somebody forever."
