Chippa part ways with Zongo

Cape Town - Chippa United midfielder Masibusane Zongo has been battling with off-field issues over the past few years, and, following a recent stint in rehabilitation for alcohol abuse, the Port Elizabeth outfit have finally decided to part ways with the player.

Although Zongo successfully finished a 12-month programme, club CEO Peter Koutroulis says they have since cut ties with the 24-year-old.

“We have decided to release him and he is no longer with us,” Koutroulis tells KickOff.com website.

“We sat down with his family after he finished his one-year course in rehab then we decided not to continue with helping him anymore.”

Koutroulis didn't want to elaborate on the reasons for letting the player go.

“Look we gave him and his family options but things didn’t work out for both of us so we decided to part ways with him,” he says.

Zongo has been marked as a player with a lot of potential but claims of ill-discipline saw him lose favour at his former clubs SuperSport United and Vasco da Gama.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
