Chiefs to appeal Baxter ban

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly set to appeal against the two-match ban handed to coach Stuart Baxter.

Baxter was banished to the stands after receiving a red card in his side's victory over First Division outfit United FC on Saturday night. He allegedly made abusive comments towards an assistant referee.

Chiefs coasted into the Nedbank Cup final with a 2-1 win at FNB Stadium.

Derek Blackensee, the PSL's general manager, said Baxter would not be allowed on the pitch for their next two games, and while he would be able to communicate with staff on the field, he would not be able to do so electronically.

However, according to the Soccer Laduma website, Chiefs will appeal against the ban in order to have Baxter back in the dugout for their next PSL game against SuperSport United on May 15.

Amakhosi, however, will have to wait before appealing the ban, as they cannot make any appeal against the red card until referee Victor  Gomes’s match report has been made available to the league.

In a recent game Gomes seemed to have sent Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa to the stands, but because there was no mention of the sending off in his match report, De Sa was back on the club’s bench for the next game.

Chiefs currently top the PSL standings with two games remaining, leading second-placed Platinum Stars by three points.
