Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has targeted three overseas coaches to replace Muhsin Ertugral for next season.
Turkish born Ertugral took Amakhosi to third place in the Absa Premiership, behind runners up Orlando Pirates and champions SuperSport United, but decided to leave before the last match of the season.
Said Motaung: "We are talking to three coaches, a Brazilian, Serbian and Englishman. We have not made a final decision."
When asked why he was not looking at a locally born coach, the Amakhosi chairman explained: "Football is a game of opinions off the pitch and my opinion is that there are only two South African born coaches who could handle either Chiefs or Pirates and neither of those two coaches are available. Therefore, we are forced to look overseas to fill the position and take Chiefs forward."
Motaung also stressed that he did not want to make drastic changes to the squad for the next Premier Soccer League season, which kicks off in August and ends in February to enable Bafana Bafana coach Joel Santana time to work with his locally based players ahead of the 2001 World cup finals next June.
"We will sit down with the new coach when he is appointed and find out what we need. But, in my book, we must not make too many changes which, in my opinion, will be a backwards step. We need to progress and move forward. We need to work out what players we need to bring on board but there will not be drastic changes."
