Chiefs still interested in Vilakazi

Johannesburg- The 2014/15 ABSA Premiership reigning champions Kaizer Chiefs are not done signing new players for the upcoming season set to commence next month.

The club's spokesperson Vina Maphosa has admitted that the Glamour Boys are still interested in the services of Bidvest Wits playmaker Sibusiso Vilakazi.

Last month Chiefs Football manager, Bobby Motaung, confirmed that their PSL rivals declined their proposal to sign the 25-year-old midfielder despite the player’s interest to join the Soweto giants.

Despite recent reports stating that Wits are willing to sell Vilakazi to Chiefs or Mamelodi Sundowns, Maphosa said that the Chiefs are not aware of the matter but they will still be keen to negotiate with the Clever Boys for player's services.

Maphosa also said that Chiefs will not comment on those speculations, regarding Wits willing to sell, until Wits approach them as they do not want to get involved in other clubs administration works.

“Like we said earlier on, we have shown interest in the player.” Maphosa told Sport24.

“But at the time Wits was not willing to sell despite his interest to join Chiefs.

“You might be reading articles stating that Wits are now willing to sell but we don’t know anything about that and we can’t comment on that.

“We have no right to comment because it will not be fair to Wits if we make comments with regards to their players.

“Vilakazi is a Wits player and we respect that and I can suggest that you contact Wits with regards to these speculations.

“But if they approach us about selling him to us we’ll then go ahead and do that.

“Because we have already submitted our proposal to sign him and it’s still pre-season now.

“We are still entitled to sign players and we are still interested in his services.”

Vilakazi has made over 100 appearances for the Clever Boys and has become part of the national team's plans under Shakes Mashaba.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
