Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs' general manager Bobby Motaung believes the win over bitter rivals Orlando Pirates was a crucial result in the club's hunt for the PSL title.
Bucs have dominated the Soweto derby in recent times, winning all three previous encounters with Amakhosi this season, but Chiefs finally ended the run of defeats with a 2-1 win on Saturday.
Motaung was delighted with the victory, which moved his beloved team into pole position on the PSL standings, and confident the campaign is back on track.
He told The Sowetan in jest: "This is a major victory for us and it was long overdue. The country is stable and the majority of our citizens are happy, even the economy is picking up after our win on Saturday."
Motaung added: "Many people tried unsuccessfully to write the obituary of the derby, arguing that it had lost its spark, but this is not true."
"Our priority this season is to win the league title and we are on the right track in terms of delivering the title to our supporters.
"The fans must just be patient and I want to assure them that everything is moving very well and we are rightfully back on top of the log."
