Chiefs look to end Tuks hoodoo

Johannesburg - Current Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to register their first victory over the University of Pretoria, when the two side’s clash in the quarter-finals of the MTN 8 at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening, kick off at 20h15.

AmaTuks are unbeaten against the Soweto giants in all competitions, notably beating the Amakhosi 1-0 in the last game of the 2012/2013 season to clinch eighth spot on the Premier Soccer League log.

Chiefs defender Morgan Gould admitted that the loss to the Tshwane outfit on the last day of last season hurt the players, but expressed that the Glamour Boys have put the past behind them and are rather focussing on the future.

“Last season stays behind us, looking to a new season, yes it was painful for us to lose the game, but we are starting with a new season, with new ambitions. We start with Tuks and we will just have to do the business on the day,” said Gould.

Chiefs lost 4-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarterfinal stage of the competition last season, and the former SuperSport United captain feels that this particular loss set the Amakhosi alight and that they have now learnt from that.

“The past is the past, it was a game that we had to go through and fortunately set us alight, it was an eye opener. This time we don’t need an eye opener, we know what’s what,” explained Gould.

“Tuks is a very good side. With good players and they are a very hard working team. We need to focus on one thing, which is getting to the next round.”

AmaTuks centre back Buhle Mkhwanazi says his side are positive of continuing their good run against their more illustrious opponents.

“It’s an exciting game coming up on the weekend, the mood in the camp is very high and positive, we can’t wait for the weekend. I think Kaizer Chiefs are really going to fight for their money, we are going to go all out, but I’m sure they are also going to go all out ,” said Mkhwanazi.

“They haven’t beaten us, and I’m sure that won’t change anytime soon,” concluded the confident Mkhwanazi.

Tuks veteran midfielder Dipsy Selolwane added that the game gives the club an opportunity to show what they can do.

“For us as a club it’s a great opportunity to showcase what we can do, the young players are excited for the weekends game,” said Selolwane.

Kaizer Chiefs are the most successful club in the Top Eight Cup competition while Tuks will be making their debut in the tournament this weekend.
