Chiefs get Polokwane praise

Johannesburg - South African football legend William "Kurra" Makhura has heaped praise on Kaizer Chiefs for their decision to play some of their home matches in Polokwane.

Amakhosi fans filled the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening to watch their team record a 1-0 victory over Wits.

The former Moroka Swallows legend told the Sowetan: "This is the second home match for Chiefs here and the stadium is packed, it goes to show that our people are hungry for professional soccer.

"Their marketing team was here on Friday. They went to taxi ranks and shopping malls to sell their game. Our teams must market themselves and get involved in community development projects.

"Their decision to play some of their home matches here will help them recruit more supporters."

Makhura says the race for the league title this season could go to the wire.

"It's going to be an exciting season, and it looks like it will go down to the wire, you can also look out for Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates," he said.
