Chiefs could dump players

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs' shock defeat to Vasco da Gama could have severe repercussions for fringe players in the squad.

Vladimir Vermezovic fired a broadside at Amakhosi after they four points adrift of Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns due to the reverse at the FNB Stadium.

The Soweto giants went into the showdown with the Cape minnows without the services of first-team regulars Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Itumeleng Khune.

Shorn of their stars, the Glamour Boys were outplayed by Vasco who deservedly won the match 3-2, but in characteristic style, Vlad V has warned that heads will roll at Naturena.

"They want to take only big games seriously. We are going to sell players. No one must think they are bigger than Kaizer Chiefs," said the Serbian coach.

"I have said before that while we may have the best team, maybe we don't have the best players. Some took my statement to mean they are bigger than the team."

Chiefs have an opportunity to redeem themselves in the Telkom Knockout final this weekend, but for some members of the squad, their careers at the club could end within weeks.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
