Celtic brush aside Polokwane

Bloemfontein - Bloemfontein Celtic have swept aside a hapless Polokwane City outfit 5-1 in a PSL encounter played at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Alfred Ndengane, Vuyani Ntanga, Dumisani  Zuma and Jacky Motshegwa found the back of the net for the hosts while Sipho Jembula scored a consolation goal for the visitors.

The game got off to a fast paced start as both teams looked to stamp their authority on a encounter that was vital for two teams occupying spots at the bottom half of the table.

Siwelele were the quickest out of the blocks and took the lead in the 11th minute through Ndengane. Dumisani Zuma's floated cross sat up nicely for the Celtic defender who headed past Dino Visser who was rooted to the spot.

Jabulani Maluleke and Thoboni Mncwango went close for the visitors soon after before Ntanga doubled the hosts' lead in the 34th minute.

Rise and Shine failed to succesfully clear from a Celtic free-kick and were duly punished by Ntanga who fired in from a tight angle.

Musa Nyatama should've added to the hosts lead three minutes later after being set through on goal, but the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder failed to find the back of the net with only the keeper to beat.

Puleng Tlolane was introduced after the break as Polokwane looked to turn things around, the Rise and Shine striker netted seven league goals for the men from Limpopo last term.

Mncwango was guilty of squandering a golden chance to pull a goal back for Polokwane before Zuma made it 3-0 on the hour mark, curling the ball past Visser from inside the area.

Second-half substitute Motshegwa added another in the 68th minute, running onto a pin-point pass from Nyatama before striking the ball past a helpless Visser.

Rise and Shine finally got their name on the score sheet in the 76th minute in rather fortunate circumstances. Jembula's powerful effort from range deflected off Bevan Fransman before rolling past a stranded Patrick Tignyemb in the Cetic goal.

Motshegwa completed his brace late into stoppage time, firing a sweet strike into the back of the net following a flowing move down the right flank.

The win moves Phunya Sele Sele up to 11th place on the league standigs while Polokwane remain 15th.
