Celtic beat Chippa United

Bloemfontein - Bloemfontein Celtic beat Chippa United 1-0 thanks to Lerato Manzini’s 77th minute strike in an Absa Premiership game at Botshabelo Stadium on Saturday afternoon to move into fifth place on the log.

Celtic captain Thabo Nthethe forced a brilliant save out of Kassaly in the fourth minute, but the defender was in any case judged to be offside.

Chippa United thought they had opened the scoring when Brent Carelse found the back of the net from a Masibusane Zongo free-kick in the 23rd minute. Carelse’s effort, though, was chalked off as he was also judged to be offside.

Zongo went close for Chippa in 27th minute but his free-kick went agonisingly wide of Patrick Tignyemb’s right hand post.

Carelse had a chance to give his side the lead going into the break, but the veteran midfielder’s shot from outside the area was easily gathered by Tignyemb.

The teams went into the break all square, with both struggling to break through the opposition’s defence line.

Zongo created the first real chance of the second stanza in the 62nd minute. This time around the midfielder’s left footed strike narrowly passed Tignyemb’s left hand post.

Celtic had an excellent opportunity to open the scoring in the 74th minute, but Mogorosi couldn’t direct his close range header into the back of the net.

Lerato Manzini secured all three points for Siwelele in the 77th minute. The striker gathered the ball in the box after a miscued shot and fired past Kassaly from close range after excellent work from Mogorosi down the right flank.

Kubheka nearly equalised for his side minutes later, but the midfielder’s shot from outside the area cannoned off the post.

The Bloemfontein side moved into fifth place on the log, three points behind neighbours Free State Stars, while Chippa stay rooted to the bottom of the table.
