Celtic, Wits eager to bounce back

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic and Bidvest Wits will both be looking to bounce back from midweek Absa Premiership defeats when they meet at Free State Stadium.

Celtic suffered a second successive league defeat when they were beaten 1-0 away to derby rivals Free State Stars in midweek.

The Bloemfontein side has claimed eight points from five home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Moroka Swallows (home), Black Aces and Orlando Pirates (both away).

Phunya Sele Sele are placed 10th on the Absa Premiership log with 16 points from 13 matches.

Wits suffered a third loss from their last five league matches when they were beaten 3-0 at home by log leaders Kaizer Chiefs in midweek.

The Johannesburg side has claimed seven points from six away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Ajax Cape Town (home), Platinum Stars (away) and SuperSport United (home).

The Clever Boys are placed sixth on the PSL log with 20 points from 13 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Celtic and Wits have met in 49 league matches since 1985.

The Clever Boys have 20 wins compared to 15 for Phunya Sele Sele, while 14 matches have been drawn.

Celtic have won 11 of their 24 home matches against Wits down the years, suffering six defeats in the process.

Last season the Clever Boys completed a league ‘double’ over Phunya Sele Sele, winning 3-1 in Johannesburg and 1-0 in Bloemfontein.

Kick-off is at 15:30 on Sunday, December 7.
