Bloemfontein - Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs have drawn 0-0 in an exciting PSL clash at a vibrant Free State Stadium.
WRAP: PSL
Both sides created plenty of scoring chances, but all the players left their scoring boots at home, most notably Knowledge Musona, Kingston Nkhatha and Reneilwe Letsholonyane.
The first goal chance of the match came the way of Kaizer Chiefs from a corner kick. But even though Morgan Gould was free of a marker, he could not direct his header on target in the 9th minute.
Just a few moments later, Willard Katsande came close to opening the score with a volleyed attempt at the back post following a corner kick.
It took until the 26th minute for Celtic’s first chance on goal and it was nothing more than a Joel Mogorosi shot from distance. The Botswana international’s attempt had a lot of swerve on it, but it lacked the direction to trouble Khune.
In the 35th minute it was Musona’s turn to try and open the scoring. But his first-time attempt flew just over the bar.
With four minutes to go until the break, Reneilwe Letsholonyane started an exciting move that ended with a cross from the left flank. Letsholonyane got to the end of it, but could not keep his header on target.
In the dying moments of the first half, Vuyani Ntanga tested Khune with a stinging long range shot, which Khune could only parry into play, and fortunately for him there was no Celtic player ready to score from the rebound.
In the opening stages of the second half, it was again Musona with a chance to score. But the Zimbabwean rushed his shot when all he needed to do was find the target.
In the 70th minute Musona had yet another chance at goal, but this time he tried to volley the leather off the ball and he sent the ball into row Z of the Free State Stadium.
Just a few minutes later, Joel Mogorosi came close for the home side when his header at the far post went just wide of the target.
With two minutes to go, Letsholonyane did really well to make a late run into the area, but his header was off target.
Overall both sides put up a decent showing, but in the final third their shooting at goal was terribly out of tune.
