Johannesburg - Veteran SuperSport United defender Bradley Carnell remains hopeful that coach Gavin Hunt will commit his future to the club - despite rumours he is stalling on signing a new contract.
The 34-year-old was an unused substitute in Wednesday's 2-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs that left the triple PSL Champions languishing in 12th place on the standings with just four matches remaining this season.
Hunt was the man who persuaded Carnell to return home after more than 12 years playing in Germany, but with the coach yet to confirm he will accept a two-year extension to his current deal, the former Bafana Bafana left-back believes it is crucial he decides sooner rather than later.
"He hasn't really said anything at all. I believe there is some interest from one or two other clubs but I know a new contract has been offered, although it [is] with clauses and I think that may be the problem," said Carnell.
"Gavin has the right methods and he has had so much success so I hope it all works out and we can continue working together. But there is so much speculation going around and that has filtered into the players. People start making their own decisions about the future and that doesn't really help. The sooner a decision of his future is made then the sooner we can get stuck into the remaining games."
Five points separate SuperSport from Santos in eighth position as the champions look to end their long reign on a positive note by qualifying for next season's MTN 8.
And having made just 11 appearances for his new club after signing from German second division side Hansa Rostock, Carnell admitted it has been a tough return to South Africa.
He said: "Things just haven't seemed to go our way and we have had a torrid season this year in front of goal. The team has created so many chances that you would expect us to score a couple every game but it just hasn't happened."
