Brockie offer 'too good to refuse'

Wellington - New Zealand striker Jeremy Brockie will leave the A-League in January to join South Africa's SuperSport United, his club Wellington Phoenix said on Thursday.

Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick said the 27-year-old had signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Pretoria-based outfit, with the option of an extra year.

"The offer he received from SuperSport was too good to refuse," Merrick said.

"He has been a good servant to the Phoenix and I wasn't going to stand in his way."

Brockie has won 44 caps for the All Whites and was runner-up for the A-League golden boot in 2012-13 with 16 goals.

But he has struggled for game time since Merrick took over last year and said he was ready for a new challenge and had always wanted to play overseas.

"The contract will take me up to the 2018 World Cup and hopefully I can continue playing well enough to keep my place in the All Whites," he said.
