Cape Town - Brighton Mhlongo insists he is mentally ready to take the over the gloves when his side faces SuperSport United in their Telkom Knockout Cup semi-final.

Brighton "Spider Man" Mhlongo spoke to orlandopiratesfc.com and opened up on the challenge of possibly taking over the number one position of the Soweto giants.

Mhlongo was in goals for the practise match against Highlands Park which saw him keep a clean sheet in the Bucs' 2-0 win.

"It will be good for me," said Mhlongo when asked if he is ready to start on Saturday against Matsatsantsa.

"I have waited for an opportunity to play and now it looks like I could start on Saturday, but we have a lot to graft still before the coach decides who to play.

"It has not been easy for us as a team, but we have gone through the various phases of accepting Senzo’s departure and we are focused again.

Speaking after the friendly match, Brighton said: "We won and I think I did well. I kept a clean sheet and of course, that was a great motivation for me."

"I have been preparing myself really well for the opportunity to play here.

"I am not putting myself under pressure because I know I will have to go through some tough times here before the supporters welcome me like they did to all the other guys who were successful goalies here.

"Mentally I am prepared, Augusto Palacios prepared us nicely to stand pressure and Saturday could be my day

"So, I am prepared to play.

"It will be difficult to match what Senzo did here, but i know i have something different to offer to the team and to the fans." added "Spider Man".
