Botes chuffed with MTN8 triumph

Johannesburg - Following their impressive MTN8 quarter-final victory over SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits veteran striker Henrico Botes believes that the Clever Boys have enough depth in their squad to compete for the league and every Cup competition on offer this season.

It took "The Students" 120 minutes to defeat Matsatsantsa in the first round of the R8 million Cup competition at the Bidvest stadium on Tuesday, August 4.

Botes alongside Daine Klate and Sibusiso Vilakazi were on target for Wits on the night while the Pretoria-based outfit scored a lone goal through Jeremy Brockie.

The 35-year-old forward said their win over United was just a reward for all their hard work during the off-season.

“It was a tremendous game for us,” said Botes.

“It was a hard fought one against 10 men and it had all the episodes of a drama series.

“So we are just happy because we won and we are through to the next round of the competition.

“Obviously we were very tired because of all the hard work in the off-season.

“But our win was just a reward for the team, so our target is to do well in the league and also in each and every Cup competition this season.”
