Botes: We deserved to win

Cape Town - Henrico Botes said Bidvest Wits had chances to win their MTN8 first leg semi-final at the Coetzenburg Stadium against Ajax Cape Town, but they are happy with the 1-1 draw which gives them the advantage heading into the second leg in a fortnight’s time.

The lanky striker levelled matters late in the game after Ajax failed to clear to give Wits a big boost ahead of the return leg.

Ajax had grabbed the lead early in the match through Toriq Losper.

“I’m happy we equalised to get back into the game and will take the 1-1 draw,” Botes said.

“The condition of the pitch was absolutely horrible, but at the end of the day we are professionals and had to make do with what we had.

“We started quite well, had a couple of chances in the first half and I had one that I should have put away. We scored an away goal and will meet them again in the second leg.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
