Johannesburg - Matthew Booth admitted that the scoreline flattered Mamelodi Sundowns in the 3-0 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces on Saturday night.
Katlego Mphela opened the scoring in the fifth minute while Papi Zothwane's quick-fire, second-half brace ensured the Brazilians extended their lead at the top of the PSL standings.
However, before the double from the attacker, Aces made the hosts toil and Booth feels they were unlucky to end up with such a heavy defeat.
"Don't be fooled by the scoreline they were in the game till we scored the third goal," the defender told Sundowns' official website.
"Our former coach Neil Tovey has assembled a good team and they will go on to surprise a lot of people this season.
"As a team we needed a win desperately and that was our mission on Saturday. For some of the games you have to grind out a result and this was one of those games."
Booth has urged his team-mates to start playing the slick diski Sundowns have become famous for. The boys from Chloorkop may be stilling at the top of the league table, but they have been far from convincing. Club owner and president Patrice Motsepe, meanwhile, is not impressed with their performances.
"The president made it very clear what is expected from us as players and what it means to play for Sundowns and we have to live up to that," Booth said.
"We did not play with flair and style as we normally would like to do, and as the team is synonymous with, yet we got the results.
"There have been games where we dominated but failed to get the desired result. On Saturday it was the opposite. Now that we have a win under our belt we have to revert back to our usual football of flair and style and live up to our nicknames 'bafana ba style' or 'the Brazilians'.
"We have a very talented team that can showcase their God-given talent. The win has boosted the moral in the team and brought back the confidence which was at its lowest after our loss to Wits," concluded Booth.
Sundowns will be inactive over the weekend as either Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs will lift the Telkom Knockout trophy on Saturday night. Bucs already have the MTN8 under their belts, while the Brazilians have been poor in the cup competitions this season.
Booth and company will watch uncomfortably as the Soweto giants continue to rise from their long slumber.
