Bhengu rejected Chiefs, 'Downs

Cape Town - Phumelele Bhengu opted against a move to Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns before joining SuperSport United.

Matsatsantsa beat a number of PSL big hitters to Bhengu's signature after the goal poacher topped the charts with 22 goals for Thanda Royal Zulu in the National First Division (NFD) last season.

Bhengu revealed that Chippa United, Platinum Stars, Bidvest Wits and Free State Stars were also interested in acquiring his services.

"SuperSport is one big family. They compete and look after their players. They are very supportive, but the motivating factor was that the club gives players a platform to grow and move abroad when the time comes," Bhengu told KickOff.

Since his last tenure in the PSL, with Moroka Swallows, the 25-year-old believes he has grown into a more decisive and imposing force.

He added: "I can turn, take a shot and follow up. I also work hard when I don't have the ball because that's what the coach has been emphasising that pressure has to start up-front."
