Benni dreams of Belgium title

Cape Town – Newly appointed Sint-Truidense assistant coach Benni McCarthy reveals his desire to win the Belgium Pro League title.

According to Soccer Laduma, the former Bafana Bafana striker believes that Sint-Truidense are capable of winning the Belgium Pro League.

“I’m hoping that we can, this season or next season, become champions of Belgium. If I didn’t think that was possible then I wouldn’t come," said the 37-year-old.

"As a player I always wanted to win, I played for clubs that wanted to become champions, and STVV won the second division and it’s very possible that they can do it again.”

McCarthy admits that he was taken aback when the opportunity came up for him to assist head coach  Chris O’Loughlin.

“I’m doing my UEFA A badges and I didn’t expect this opportunity. Chris has a lot of faith in me. How? I honestly don’t know," McCarthy said at the unveiling.

“As a coach I’m just looking to work really and bring my expertise as a footballer to help the young players. They have players from different cultures and I’ve been a player coming to a new environment. So hopefully I can come in and help.”
