And McCarthy insists there is room for improvement.
"The team plays quick football with our wingers doing the job on the flanks and creating chances," he told his club's official website.
"I am working hard and trying to understand the style of play and hopefully with this I will improve on my goal scoring rate this season."
Bafana's record goalscorer, with 31 strikes, says he always played up front.
"Since I started playing football, my job has always been scoring goals. I am used to it and when it (the goals) does not come, it bothers me a bit.
"However, if I do not score I create chances for other players to score which is also cool with me," he added.
