Benni a Buccaneer

2011-08-02 10:00

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza has confirmed that veteran striker Benni McCarthy has signed a two-year contract with the Absa Premiership giants.

McCarthy had been without a club since April after newly relegated English outfit West Ham United paid him a fee to cut his contract short.

McCarthy had been linked in the media to possible offers from other South African clubs, including Ajax Cape Town.

Khoza, however, confirmed at a media conference in Houghton on Tuesday that the Bafana Bafana record goal scorer had agreed on a deal with the Buccaneers.

  • Odwa D - 2011-08-02 10:32

I am disappointed that Kaizer bought Parker instead of Benni. This is good for South African football.

      Jezabbela - 2011-08-02 11:28

KC made a good choice, Just now Benni pulls the Oros Man on them (fat belly) then what?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Couldn't we have hired a young, up & coming THIN player?????

      King Msendi - 2011-08-02 13:21

There are more up and and coming thin strikers in the Bucs ship. I think the youngters will benefit from the experience of this legend…

  • Rammsteen - 2011-08-02 10:43

A 33 year old striker with 5 years of more hamburger time than game time. Hope it works for Pirates because this season Ajax will take it!

      mpho30 - 2011-08-02 15:38

The same Ajax that has lost key players and lost how many matches in pre-season? The morale they carry from the last game of last season is going to prevent them from even featuring in the coming season.

  • Kok - 2011-08-02 10:50

I am officially a Buccaneer supporter.

      Bra Pat - 2011-08-02 11:54

  • YES - 2011-08-02 10:57

Benni is, without exception, a good player and none of our PSL players have matched his class sofar. I have no doubt that he would use the oppportunity to proof himself. Wish him well and am sure his fans will, across the board, enjoy watching him in action.

      Staaldraad - 2011-08-02 13:02

Will we see him in action at McDonalds or at the stadium?

  • Mbusi - 2011-08-02 10:59

SHAPA BHAKABHAKA SHAPA!!! Now we have someone who can capitalize all the good Manyesa and Jali's distribution. Ayeye Chiefs Ayeye..!!!! lol

  • McDaNife - 2011-08-02 11:18

Benni you dont have to worry about fitness, get as fat as you want, maybe look like another now Jomo Sono.

  • Who Cares - 2011-08-02 11:20

    UP the Benni's mouth!!!

  • nobokjoy - 2011-08-02 11:27

  • Enigma - 2011-08-02 11:27

Oh Dear Lord please help us! This is the worst mistake that has ever been done by Khoza.

  • Jezabbela - 2011-08-02 11:29

    McFlurry, McChicken, McCarthy. B = Bucs, B = Benni, B = Burgers!!!

      Neles - 2011-08-02 11:36

  • Dnt8 - 2011-08-02 11:36

No place like home ....hey Benni

  • AndV - 2011-08-02 11:38

What is the fuzz about this has been. He disgraced SA with his hard-to-get behaviour, for which he has been paying the last year or two. This guy is fat and overweight and not a shadow of the player of the past. His arrogance knows no boundaries and the Buc's are surely going to realize that soon. A mistake.

      Patriot - 2011-08-02 11:58

Tell me, would you leave your club in the EPL to play a friendly, outside of the international window, for Bafana and risk your chances of making your team when you get back?

      Ak - 2011-08-02 12:44

And how is he going to cope with all those Vuvuzela'z??? I wonder... Goodluck to Bucs...

      King Msendi - 2011-08-02 13:25

Another 'prophet of doom'. Bennie is one of our best, if not the only best… He scored a lot of goals for our national team…

  • Aldrich - 2011-08-02 11:38

O yeah - Pirates will TAKE everything this season !!!!

  • Rampage15 - 2011-08-02 11:40

Benni you must never put a foot in Cape Town again!!! U take AJAX for a chop

  • LiraShea - 2011-08-02 11:49

Aish. I hope they took him as the new mascot.

  • Bra Pat - 2011-08-02 11:59

Face reality dudies the guy is now slim.

  • Flynn - 2011-08-02 12:03

This can never improve his career. Benni is done & dusted - now its time for Benni to make a name for himself before retiring to his faithful & loyal SA fans

  • OLIBO - 2011-08-02 12:05

We all deserve a second chance! I was one of the people who did not like Benni's behaviour towards the national team when he was on top-form at his clubs, but I did understand. I just hope he has learnt a lesson and from now he can contribute to our football.

  • sourlemon - 2011-08-02 12:10

Finally, sanity has prevailed. Welcome home Benni.....I predict you will take the golden boot honour this year!

  • Pogiso Moeketsane - 2011-08-02 12:20

Let's all be fair now, chifs fans shud nt make a mistake of comparing da Benni signing to Parker n claiming Parker is younger n he's better for the future.. The fact is, Parker is 26 yrs old n Benni is 33 yrs old, yes.. Question is, What has Benard Parker achievd @ da age of 26, compared to what had Benni achievd @ da same age. He's not even close to reaching Benni's standard @ his pick.

  • 01ndivhu - 2011-08-02 12:22

NOW CHIPS WILL NEVER BEAT PIRATES AGAIN, NEVER!!!!!!

  • Setshutshu - 2011-08-02 12:29

Welcome to the Buccaneers' Ship. Just bang the goals and they will all shut up. All this talk is just sour grapes! They're bitter because they wanted you to join their teams. Do what you know best, and pretty soon they will be screaming for you to make the Bafana Lineup.

      MJM - 2011-08-02 12:57

      Bafana Lineup? Are day dreaming?

  • KATLEHO MAKOE - 2011-08-02 12:58

Khoza is seemingly firing up his squad, his got all guns blazing out!

  • thanyani.mpeiwa - 2011-08-02 13:23

  • Mahle - 2011-08-02 13:27

How much did Bucs pay for him, ooops he's a free agent

  • clemzito1 - 2011-08-02 13:27

Might as well give him the golden boot now already

  • nn.prv - 2011-08-02 13:33

If sundowns got Peter Ndlovu, why not Benni for Pirates? I hope for a change a South African club will conquer Africa.Thats the ultimate prize.

  • Future Human - 2011-08-02 13:38

Ow!! Bennie is back in the 18 area!~!!!

  • kofi - 2011-08-02 13:40

pirates home has 2 extend its cafeteria. bnni wil jst make pirates lose money

  • Mcebiseni - 2011-08-02 13:45

He will make it happen... Take it from me the chiefs supporter, Benni is an exact thing that Pirates has been missing all along. If he can cut fats from his back-side and go back to his old body size, he shall do well... Interesting what is going to happen in this season since we also got Parker... All Bafana Bafana strickers in the local league!! damn I cant wait to see them banging them goals.

  • luvhani - 2011-08-04 13:46

olarndo pirates are turning into south african's real madrid, we got players who can win the game for us why do we need benni?
