Benni McCarthy 'adds value'

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates coach Julio Leal has praised veteran Benni McCarthy's impact on the club since joining at the beginning of August.

McCarthy marked his Buccaneers debut with a goal after coming on as a substitute against Black Leopards on the opening day of the PSL season, and the former West Ham and Blackburn striker started Pirates' 3-2 MTN8 semi-final victory over Mamelodi Sundowns at the weekend.

And while Leal admits the Bafana Bafana hitman is not yet at 100%, he insists the Champions League winner is still a big asset to the Bucs squad.

"He adds value. He started for the first time and he did well. He's not 100 percent fit but he's very committed," Leal told Eye Witness News.

McCarthy could be considered for another starting berth when Pirates travel to the Harry Gwala Stadium to take on Maritzburg United in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday..
