Johannesburg - Benni McCarthy is set to pen a deal with Orlando Pirates soon.
Former Bafana Bafana striker was present at this past weekend's Black Label Carling Cup between Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium in Soweto.
Soccer-Laduma spoke to McCarthy who said that he expects to
conclude a deal with the Mayfair-based club soon. “I have spoken to the Pirates
management and hope to conclude a deal with the club in the next two days. I am
very excited,” McCarthy told the Siya crew.
Pirates’ management are tightlipped about the prospect of
signing the 33-year-old striker however would not deny that they are about to
pen a deal.
Bafana Bafana’s all-time top goalscorer had been training with Ajax Cape Town and was expected to join the Urban Warriors for the new season. However, it now seems that the only South African player to have ever won the UEFA Champions League will be donning the black and white jersey for the 2011/12 campaign.
With Pirates participating in the CAF Champions League next
season, McCarthy will have the opportunity to make history by being the only
player to have won both the CAF Champions League and UEFA Champions League.
The former Blackburn Rovers and Porto striker will in all likeliness partner Bongani Ndulula in attack which will give the South African Under-23 international the chance to learn from, arguably, the best striker South Africa has ever produced.
