Johannesburg - Former Portsmouth striker, Benjamin "Benjani" Mwaruwari, has finally penned a deal with SuperSport United.

The Zimbabwean has signed a one-year deal with the defending Nedbank Cup champions, after spending time training with the Gavin Hunt coached outfit.

SuperSport’s football director, Stan Matthews, confirmed to the Siya crew in last week’s edition of Soccer-Laduma, issue 790, that the club was locked in negotiations with the former Manchester City striker.

A deal has now been concluded and the 34-year-old will turn out in the colours of Matsatsantsa this season. Having started his professional career in South Africa, with Jomo Cosmos, the former international spent over a decade in Europe, playing for a number of high profile clubs.

Benjani has now returned to Mzansi, where it all started, and will see it out his illustrious career in the PSL.

The former Blackburn Rovers man spoke to the English media following his signing, where he expressed his desire to continue scoring goals.

"I had great years in English football, I am happy to have played in the Premier League scoring goals against top teams in the league such as Manchester United for Manchester City," he told Sky Sports.

He added, “I hope to score goals for SuperSport United, I learnt my football with Jomo Cosmos in this country and hope to succeed in the club.”
