Baxter: There is no small team

Johannesburg - Absa Premiership champions Kaizer Chiefs start the defence of their title on Friday when they take on newly promoted Mpumalanga Black Aces at Mbombela Stadium.

According to the Soccer-Laduma website, Despite Aces moving up via victory in the promotion/relegation playoffs, Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter tells the Siya crew that there is no small team in the league.

He said that every team in the league deserves respect and they will take the game seriously.

"Anywhere in the world, if you are the defending champions and you play against a newly promoted team, it is a challenge. We know as defending champions a lot is expected from us and the players know what lies ahead of them," he said at a press conference held at the PSL offices.

"We have to win the first game and set the tone for the new season. It won't be easy though and we have to take Aces seriously. There is no small team in the league and we won't be taking this game for granted," Baxter observed.

The last time the two teams met was three seasons ago when Aces were still in the PSL and Chiefs won both home and away games.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
