Barker denies Massa rumours

Cape Town - AmaZulu coach Steve Barker has ruled out raiding his former club University of Pretoria for Uganda international Geofrey Massa in the January transfer window.

The tactician left AmaTuks for Usuthu at the end of November and immediately got one over his former employers after leading the Durban club to victory in the two sides' Premiership encounter on December 2.

Barker has since been tipped with an interest in Massa, but has quickly moved to quash any such talk of a transfer raid on Tuks.

"I don't know where that rumour came from and Massa won't be joining us in any case," he said.

Barker has a huge job on his hands with AmaZulu in the second-half of the season, with Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Moroka Swallows leaving them still rock-bottom of the standings, nine points adrift of safety.

"(Saturday's defeat) leaves us really down there now," Barker said. "At the end of the day nobody is going to do us any favours.

"We have nine points and we have 14 games left to play, of which nine of those matches will be at home, and I think that is the key in those matches."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
