Arrows put three past Cosmos

Durban - Golden Arrows put three past Jomo Cosmos in an Absa Premiership match at Princess Magogo Stadium that eventually finished 3-1 to the home side.

Dillon Sheppard, Thanduyise Khuboni and Collins Mbesuma netted for Arrows while Tshepo Tomanyane got one for Cosmos.

The first chance of the match fell for the hosts in the second minute when Siyabonga Nkosi found himself with space to shoot inside the box but the midfielder will be disappointed with missing the target as his shot went wide of the post.

The home side then took control of the match but in the 14th minute a rare chance for Cosmos saw Alton Meiring’s long range effort saved comfortably by Arrows goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Gumede.

Arrows continued to dominate possession and eventually took the lead in the 22nd minute when Dillon Sheppard fired home from the edge of the box after he was set up brilliantly by Mbesuma.

The home side continued to control the game but were unable to add to their lead in the first half as they lacked composure in the final third.

They were made to pay for their missed chances in the 59th minute when Cosmos netted the equalizer through defender Tshepo Tomanyane who headed home from a Bamuza Sono freekick.

Just when it looked like the visitors would be able to hold on for an away point Arrows were awarded a penalty in the 88th minute when substitute Nkanyiso Mlotshwa was brought down inside the box by Ofosu Appiah.

Khuboni stepped up to take the kick and his shot came off the underside of the crossbar and deflected off Phali and into the back of the net.

Mbesuma then cancelled any slim chances of a late comeback from Cosmos when he added the third goal two minutes later; running onto a loose ball before firing past Phali.

The win moves Arrows to 11th place on the log while Jomo Cosmos’ chances of surviving relegation became slimmer as they remain at the bottom of the log.
