Pietermaritzvburg - Lamontville Golden Arrows claimed their second haul of three points of the season when they beat Maritzburg United 3-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night.
In their last game, Arrows beat Vasco Da Gama 2-0 at home. For the home side it is already worrying times as they are without a win in three league outings to date.
Arrows showed from the start of this match that they were a team on a mission and, it was hardly surprising when they found the back of the home side's goals on two occasions within the first 20 minutes of the first half.
The visitors had a legitimate penalty claim turned down by referee Phillip Tinyane in the 32nd minute which would have stretched their advantage even further.
The visitors gave an indication of their intentions as early as the first minute when winger Philani Shange tested goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters handling skills with a well struck shot.
But Walters had no answer for Nkanyiso Mlotshwa's well drilled effort in the seventh minute from just inside the United penalty area. Siyabonga Nkosi and Mzivukile Tom were instrumental in creating the chance for Mlotshwa who has netted three times in the last two games.
Tom got his name on the scoresheet in the 17th minute when he fired home a cracking drive. The Team of Choice was made to pay dearly when its defence failed to deal with a cross played into their area by Njabulo Manqana.
Maritzburg featured more prominently in the second half and as the game wore on, they were able to string together purposeful attacks.
On one occasion, Sheldon Lawrence who joined the fray in the second half warmed the fingertips of keeper Da Rocha with his blast from distance, this was the closest they came to scoring throughout the 90 minutes. Nkosi, who was having an outstanding game in the centre of midfield, spurned an opportunity to claim the Man of the Match award when he received a red card for his altercation with his opposite number Kulegani Madondo, in the closing minutes of this game.
Madondo also received his marching orders for his role in the skirmish.
