Elias Pelembe (Gallo)

Durban - Lamontville Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns had to settle for a point each as their Absa Premiership clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium ended 1-1.

Winger Elias Pelembe drew first blood for the Brazilians in the second half but the lead didn’t last for long as Musa Bilankulu got the equaliser for the hosts minutes later.

Most of the play in the first half was concentrated in the midfield with Dillon Sheppard causing problems for defenders on the left side, while Mabhuti Khenyeza did the same for Sundowns at the other end.

The first real chance of the match fell for the home team in the 27th minute when Siyabonga Nkosi delivered a dangerous corner into the box which was flicked on by Thanduyise Khuboni; Robyn Johannes did well to rescue the ball at the far post but somehow Musa Bilankulu failed to get a touch on the ball with the goalkeeper out of the equation.

Sundowns finished the half as the stronger side with Pelembe proving to be a thorn on the right side of the field and in the 41st minute he delivered a dangerous cross behind the Arrows defence for Katlego Mphela but the star striker failed to make a proper connection with the ball.

The first goal of the match arrived in the 54th minute and it was worth the wait as Elias Pelembe showed his class to control the ball on the edge of the box before placing it the top corner beyond a diving Helton Da Rocha.

The celebrations didn’t last for long as the score were back level three minutes later when Musa Bilankulu rose above defenders to head home from a Siyabonga Nkosi corner.

Both sides could’ve stolen the lead in the closing stages with substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza getting a few chances for the home side, while another substitute, Teko Modise, missed a good chance to take maximum points for the visitors in the 84th minute.

Dillon Sheppard was sent off in the 95th minute for a second bookable offence just two minutes after receiving his first yellow card.
