Johannesburg - With a goalkeeping crisis rearing its ugly head for Clive Barker’s Wits, his goalkeeper coach, former Bafana Bafana man Andre Arendse, could well make a shock PSL comeback.
According to the Soccer-Laduma website, the Clever Boys have been massively unlucky in recent weeks in their keeper department, first losing Jackson Mabokgwane to a leg break and then Ryan Harrison to a broken finger.
Following that, Steven Hoffman was ruled out with an ankle injury, before Emile Baron suffered a leg break in the recent defeat against Orlando Pirates.
Now it is the turn of youngster, Jethren Barr, to step up between the sticks, although Wits are apprehensive to throw the unexperienced 17-year-old into the deep-end.
As a result of their goalkeeping crisis, Arendse, now 45, is looking to register himself with the PSL so that he can sit on the bench and come on for Barr should the need arise.
Arendse, formerly of Fulham, Santos and Mamelodi Sundowns, last played in the PSL back in 2009 when he was contracted to SuperSport United.
It remains to be seen whether the shot-stopper, who was a participant in the 2002 World Cup, will be registered in time for the game against University of Pretoria on Wednesday, although the club are eager to get him available as soon as possible.
