AmaZulu demolish Ajax CT

Durban - AmaZulu have recorded their first PSL win of the season after thrashing Ajax Cape Town 4-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday night.

Former Ajax player Stanton Lewis scored a brace, with the other two goals coming from Ayanda Dlamini and Tangeni Shipahu.

The home side showed their intentions in the first minute with Lewis testing the goalkeeper from 25 yards out, but his shot sailed wide.

With both sets of defence standing tall, play was concentrated in the middle of the park, with players choosing to test the goalkeepers from range.

Khama Billiat tried a shot from distance in the 16th minute but Usuthu goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela was on hand to make a comfortable save, while Sibusiso Hadebe saw his shot flying over the bar two minutes later.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 20th minute when Ayanda Dlamini took advantage of a defensive mistake and went around the keeper before squeezing the ball in from an angle.

Lewis added to his former club’s woes when he scored the second goal eleven minutes later with a strike from inside the box, his first goal in AmaZulu colours.

Roger Palmgren’s side started to play with a lot more confidence and went into the break in high spirits and with their two-goal lead intact.

Ajax tried to claw their way back into the game in the second half and Mzimela pulled off a good save to deny Grandwald Scott’s header ten minutes after the break.

The Urban Warriors were dealt another blow in the 70th minute when Tangeni Shipahu collected a long ball from Thamsanqa Sangweni and beat Sean Roberts with a low strike.

Usuthu put the result beyond doubt two minutes later when Lewis broke through the defence and slotted the ball in the bottom-right corner to grab his second goal of the match.
