AmaTuks saw Barker relinquish the reins at the weekend in favour of a move to AmaZulu, with his last contribution coming in the form of a 3-2 win over Moroka Swallows.
And, the Pretoria outfit have acted quickly in filling the void, with club CEO Dr Rendani Mulaudzi confirming the news.
"We believe that Sammy and Sly can do the job,” Mulaudzi said.
"I don't think it is a very easy thing to go to the market when we got people. Sammy has coached the team before and he did a very good job.
"Sly is growing into a very good coach. So right now there is no reason why we need to look for another coach. We believe in the system that we have built at the club where the program is about the players.
"Our players are our main concern and the coaches must drive the system to deliver the results in the field and we believe in these two.
"When Sammy left, Steve Barker immediately stepped in as a head coach and continued where Sammy left and went on to play in the finals of the Nedbank Cup."
University of Pretoria’s next encounter is against Orlando Pirates on Wednesday, November 26.
Kick-off is at 19:30.
