Allie relishing life at Wits

Cape Town - Nazeer Allie has left Ajax to an emotional send-off by the club who labelled him one of their greatest ever players and he tells Sport24 that he will cherish his time spent there.

Allie joined Bidvest Wits two weeks ago after spending his entire career at his boyhood club and he says that it has been good to have familiar faces around to help him acclimatise.

"Moeneeb (Josephs) has helped me settle in, he’s introduced me to the family here," Allie said.

"I never had a chance to say goodbye to Ajax but I am very grateful for the time I spent at Ajax, they stuck with me through the ups and downs."

Allie spoke emotionally about Ajax calling him a club legend and one of their best ever players, saying: "I will cherish that forever in my heart because I am grateful that that is what they think of me."

The experienced right-back believes that Wits is a club on the cusp of winning major trophies which is why he joined.

"The club is very ambitious ... the coach’s mentality is all about winning stuff and so that is clearly rubbing off on the club.

"Obviously it will be different for me, I will have to get used to their style of play and the way the coach wants me to play.

"At Ajax we had a certain way of playing always but here that might be different I will just have to see in the next couple of weeks or so," he said.
