Ajax to cut off Benni's supply

Johannesburg - Ajax Cape Town coach Maarten Stekelenburg says he has no specific plans for Benni McCarthy, but admits his side will need to keep the striker quiet if they are to beat Orlando Pirates.

The Urban Warriors travel to the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday to take on the defending PSL champions, who have relied heavily on former Bafana Bafana hitman McCarthy for their goals this season.

Stekelenburg, whose side are level on points with Pirates, believes preventing the supply to the 34-year-old forward can prove just as effective as gagging the Bucs man himself.

"We are not focusing especially on Benni McCarthy," Stekelenburg told the Sunday Tribune. "But we will obviously have to make sure we keep him quiet.

"Of course he has got one great quality and that is scoring goals. Where other teams create their chances and miss them, Benni will not miss chances.

"When he has a scoring opportunity, he will score it for sure.

"But that is something we are aware of and you must try and cut off the supply for him to get the ball in the box.

"So that will be the focus, but that is no different to what we do in other matches."
