Ajax promote another youngster

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town confirmed that 18-year-old goalkeeper Jody February was handed a professional contract and promoted to the Urban Warriors first team.

February joins Anssi Jaakkola, Brandon Petersen and Andre Petim in the first team.

The club has handed February a professional contract, however, the 18-year-old shot stopper will only join his teammates upon the completion of his Matric final exams in December.

Young midfielders Yagan Sasman and Ziyaad Eksteen are in a similar situation as February, with all three players set to join the PSL squad in December.

“Once again the Ajax Youth Academy proved its value,” said club CEO, Ari Efstathiou to Ajax’s website.

“This fine youngster has been in the academy since the age of eleven and keeps surprising us. Hopefully he will be able to make as much game time as possible in the Multichoice Diski Team to gain more experience and then be part of the PSL squad.”

February impressed Roger De Sa and his technical team during pre-season in July and continue to do so in the Urban Warriors youth side.

“I am very excited and look forward to working with Jody,” said de Sa.

“Hopefully I will be able to play him in the upcoming Multichoice Diski Challenge in order to gain the experience needed before making the jump into the PSL. He has tremendous talent and is definitely a huge prospect for the future.”

The young goalkeeper was afforded the opportunity to travel with the youth team to Holland on three occasions to participate in the Copa Amsterdam Cup, Future Cup and Terborg Tournament.

His talent hasn't stayed unnoticed as he has gained 12 caps in the SA U17’s & U20’s and was rewarded with the Player of the Season award by the CTTFA last season.

February takes Ajax’s current number of promoted players up to 23, which is a remarkable achievement for the Cape-side who continues to produce young talented players.
