Ajax hold SuperSport

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town managed to overcome their recent poor form to hold log leaders SuperSport United to a 0-0 draw at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday night.

This game saw a rare start as Anthony Laffor found himself in a one-on-one with Sander Westerveld in the second minute, but the veteran shot- topper came out tops.

But after this chance, the game took a different turn as only a few genuine chances were created throughout the first half.

The wet pitch played its part as a number of chances were wasted through players losing their grip and falling over.

George Maluleka played a defence-splitting pass to Lebogang Manyama, but Ronwen Williams came off his line to rescue.

In the 20th minute, Westerveld made a silly mistake and mistakenly passed the ball to Ashley Hartog, but he missed his attempt.

Then Laffor’s well-struck shot beat Westerveld, but went inches wide.

Matthew Booth on his debut, kept a good eye on dangerous forward Atusaye Nyondo as the teams went into half time locked at 0-0.

In the second half, Brent Carelse found space down the left with only a minute played, but his low cross was cleared by Morgan Gould.

Terror Fanteni came off the bench and brought some life back into the game as he beat Booysen before slipping with only Williams to beat.

SuperSport’s danger man, Jabulani Maluleke, came off the bench and tried to beat Westerveld with one of his trademark free-kicks, but Booth’s height came to the rescue.

In the last minute of the match, Cole Alexander played a clever chip pass to Paul Rusike, who was fouled by Nkausu. From the resulting free-kick, Thato Mokeke’s header was cleared off the line.

The match ended 0-0 and SuperSport remain unbeaten.
