Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town have ended their home fixtures for the 2013/14 PSL season with a 2-0 win over SuperSport United at Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Urban Warriors scored their goals through Tashreeq Morris and Eleazar Rodgers, while Matsatsantsa had Ennocent Mkhabela sent off in the second half.
SuperSport were on the front foot for most of the first half and forced Anssi Jaakkola into the first notable save of the match in the 16th minute, with the big Finnish goalkeeper holding onto David Mathebula’s shot.
The visitors also had half chances for Lebogang Manyama, Bennett Chenene and Bradley Grobler, but they were unable to further trouble Jaakkola.
United also suffered an injury blow late in the half when Morne Nel had to come off the bench to replace the stricken Mor Diouf.
In injury time at the end of the first half, Ajax broke the deadlock against the run of play.
Toriq Losper delivered a cross into the penalty area from a free kick and Tashreeq Morris was able to provide a right-footed finish to leave the hosts 1-0 up at the break.
Matsatsantsa continued to attack fluently after the restart, with Grobler and Manyama having further efforts on goal, while Jaakkola again thwarted Mathebula in the 60th minute to frustrate the visitors’ search for an equaliser.
The ‘keeper came up with an excellent save in the 68th minute to turn away a Manyama shot that looked destined for the back of the net, while shortly thereafter the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Ennocent Mkhabela was red carded for a foul on Keagen Dolly.
It took Ajax less than five minutes to capitalise on having a man’s advantage, with Losper providing another assist as Eleazar Rodgers beat Ronwen Williams with a right-footed shot to make it 2-0 and effectively kill off the game as a contest.
