Ajax boss slams schedule

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town chief executive officer George Comitis has labelled the Premier Soccer League's fixture schedule as "ridiculous".

The Urban Warriors are in for a bumper-packed 10 day feast of football, with the Capetonians set to contest four matches within that time span.

The Mother City outfit begin the grueling schedule in the Nedbank Cup against AmaZulu on Sunday; travel to Johannesburg to face Kaizer Chiefs in the PSL on Wednesday; return home for the Mamelodi Sundowns clash on Saturday before facing up to Free State Stars the following Wednesday.

That run of games has left Comitis questioning the fixtures list, with the Ajax chief telling the club's official website: "I'm very unhappy with the football program of our PSL team. We play four games in the next 10 days after a two-week break.

"It's ridiculous that we play our Nedbank Cup game in Durban just days before we have to play Chiefs in Johannesburg, then we have to return to Cape Town to play Mamelodi Sundowns three days later. We then have to travel to play Free State Stars in Phuthaditjhaba - that's a four-hour drive from the nearest airport in Bloemfontein.

"In my opinion the cup games should be scheduled over the same period to ensure that everybody plays their games over the same weekend. We could even have played our Nedbank game this Wednesday.

"Should we progress to the second round of the Nedbank Cup we could be faced with the prospect of playing another four games in 10 days, between March 28 to April 07, 2012.

"Surely a review of the match schedule would have ensured that there are enough rest days between fixtures to ensure that all teams perform at their highest level."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
