The keepers’ blushes were saved in the 49th minute, when the upright prevented him from conceding an embarrassing goal from a low Manqele shot which rolled under Westerveld’s body.
The game started to gain momentum for Ajax and they nearly took the lead when Lebogang Manyama found the back of the net only for it to be blown offside in the 57th minute.
Grobler missed a chance to break the deadlock when his volley, just inside the box, went wide at the post after just having to beat Sandilands, 63 minutes in.
Nyasha Mushekwi replaced Anthony Laffor up front in order to help bring some spark into the front line for the remaining ten minutes of play, while substitute Alcardo van Graan tried to stir things up for Ajax with a low effort at goal, five minutes later.
Despite each side’s last minute efforts at goal neither side could produce the goods for a late winner to see them finish on par.
