Ajax, SuperSport share spoils

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town and SuperSport United had to settle for a point each as their Absa Premiership match in Cape Town ended goalless after 90 minutes.

The game was played in very hot conditions at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town so the water breaks in each half were welcomed by the players.

It look a long time though for the players to properly warm up in what was a disappointing opening half and the first genuine scoring chances only began to emerge after halftime.

Early on in the game Ajax midfielder Bantu Mzwakali hit a first time shot at goal from outside the box, but it took a deflection and the ball slowed down and Ronwen Williams was able to gather the danger.

Three minutes later Tashriq Morris did some good work on the left flank and cut inside, but he was off balance as he shot at goal and got it horribly wrong.

A minute after that SuperSport broke out well and Bradley Grobler ended the move with a shot across goal, but it lacked power and direction.

Then Clayton Daniels turned a header towards goal from a set piece, but the ball was always going wide of the far post.

Better chances

A few minutes before the halftime break, Dino Ndlovu attempted to score with a long range strike at goal, which was very well struck but just off target.

In the 48th minute, Ronwen Williams did very well to save and deny Bantu Mzwakali from scoring with a powerful free kick as the second half began to produce better scoring chances.

In the 51st minute, Cecil Lolo is picked out with a cross field pass to the right wing and he controls and cuts inside his marker, but fires his left footed shot past the near post.

Fifteen minutes later Williams did very well to deny Mzwakali’s attempt from close range and did well to bravely save the rebounded attempt too.

In the 87th minute, Lolo cut inside from the left flank and drove in a shot at goal, but the ball was always swerving away from the top far top corner.

David Mathebula came so close in the 90th minute when his fantastic low driven shot struck the upright and Ajax’s defence scrambled the ball to safety.
