Ajax CT coach quits

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town coach Jan Versleijen has stepped down from his post.

The Dutch mentor, who was appointed in February, said on Thursday he had resigned due to a disagreement over the appointment of Muhsin Ertugral as the club's technical director.

"With the latest turn of events, where the club has appointed a new head of technical, which I do not agree with, I have made the decision to step down as head coach of Ajax Cape Town," Versleijen said.

"Further, I am very disappointed at the manner in which I have found out about this new appointment of head of technical.

"I would like to thank the club for the opportunity they afforded me, and I wish the club and its supporters the very best with their current challenge in saving relegation and its future."

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows manager Ertugral has already had two stints in charge of the Urban Warriors.

The Turkish mentor stepped down as coach of top-flight strugglers Arrows in November after a poor run of form by the Durban outfit.

With four games to go in the league campaign, Ajax are second last in the Absa Premiership standings, trailing Black Leopards on goal difference, but the Limpopo side have a game in hand.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
