Aces look to overcome Pirates

Cape Town – Mpumalanga Black Aces go in search of a third successive Absa Premiership win when they host Orlando Pirates at the Mbombela Stadium.

Aces extended their unbeaten run in the league to five matches with a 3-2 away win over Moroka Swallows at the weekend.

Clive Barker’s side has claimed four points from as many home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are AmaZulu, Mamelodi Sundowns (both away) and Polokwane City (home).

AmaZayoni are placed ninth on the Absa Premiership log with 12 points from eight matches.

Pirates returned to winning form in the league with a 1-0 victory at home against a defensively organised Free State Stars on the weekend.

The Soweto giants have claimed seven points from four away matches this season under Vladimir Vermezovic.

Their next three league opponents are Kaizer Chiefs (home), Platinum Stars and SuperSport United (both away).

The Buccaneers are placed second on the Absa Premiership log with 14 points from eight matches.

In head-to-head stats, Aces and Pirates have met in 31 league matches since 1985.

The Buccaneers have 13 wins compared to eight for AmaZayoni, while 10 matches have been drawn.

Aces have won just two of their 16 home matches against Pirates, suffering seven defeats in the process.

Last season AmaZayoni took four points off Bucs, drawing 1-1 in Mpumalanga before a 1-0 away win in the return match in Soweto.

Kick-off is at 19:30 on Tuesday, October 21.
