Aces go down to Dikwena

Mbombela - Black Aces are still without a win in the Absa premiership after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Platinum Stars in a league match at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday night.

First half goals form Vuyo Mere and Ndumiso Mabena handed the Dikwena their second win of the season.

It was a horrible start to the game for Aces who were on the back foot from the word go.

Dikwena took control early on and controlled the possession stakes.

The away side made their pressure tell in the 15th minute when roger Da Costa handled the ball inside the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Vuyo Mere stepped up for Aces and sent the keeper the wrong way upon converting his penalty, 1-0.

Stars did not let up after that and found their second in the 23rd minute.

Robert Ng’ambi let fly with a stinging shot from long range, but saw his effort well-saved by Energy Murambadoro. Ndumiso Mabena, however, was on hand to tap home the rebound from a couple yards out, 2-0.

Aces did see a bit more of the ball after that with Sandile Zuke their main threat in attack, but his best shot on goal around the 40 minute mark was superbly saved by the Stars keeper.

The half ended 0-0.

The second half saw Aces playing much better football, but they lacked imagination in the final third and could not break down a resilient Stars defence.

Consequently, Aces had to shoot from distance, but with very little effect as they game ended 2-0 in favour of the away team

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
