The Birds hitman was released from theatre on Wednesday afternoon after undergoing surgery on his wrist, which he injured during the semi final victory over Ajax at the weekend.
Birds team doctor Dr Ephraim Nematswerani tells Football365.co.za that the injury was not as serious as was first thought, but that they will only make a decision on Friday over the player's availability for the R8million showpiece.
"We are not sure if he will play," he told Football365.co.za.
"He was operated on yesterday(Tuesday) and it is a dislocation of the wrist bone and not a fracture as was first thought.
"The dislocation like any other dislocation was reduced in theatre in the way of an operation, he has just been discharged this afternoon (Wednesday)."
The Bafana Bafana ace is expected to make a return to training on Thursday.
"I will see him at training on Thursday and then make a decision whether he will play or not on Friday," Nematswerani added.
If Nomvethe is cleared to play against Bucs he is expected to wear a protective cast similar that which Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba wore during the World Cup.
"We are talking about a player who had a operation on Tuesday and three days later there is the cup final.
"The bottom line is the operation was done and number two, his hand will be put into a cast like any other hand operation and we will have to make a decision as close to the game as possible of whether he will play on Saturday or not," Nematswerani concluded.
