Johannesburg - There will be no R500,000 Christmas bonus for SA Football Association (Safa) national executive committee members, president Kirsten Nematandani said on Friday.
The New Age reported on Friday that Safa NEC member Andile Ndengezi, who is the president of the Amatoli region, proposed the sum in an e-mail circulated to some NEC members and headed "2010 WC Bonuses for NEC".
"Dear Colleagues, I would like to submit that in all the previous world cup events the Executive committees of the respective countries received bonuses," he wrote in the e-mail, according to a copy printed in the newspaper.
"The World Cup in SA was voted the best ever and in my life I might not see another in my home soil.
"I would like the members to consider the same principle we applied with regard to buses, cars etc, to apply on this matter before the funds come to our hands or to the trust.
"FIFA can assist us if make the presentation to them before [Fifa president Sepp Blatter] comes over so as to conclude the handing over. It can even be part of his handing over.
"The proposed figure is R500k each member."
However, Nematandani said Safa's 32 NEC members could only discuss and request honoraria for good performance during the year at Safa's AGM. "The Safa council makes this type of decision," he said.
"We held our AGM last Saturday and no such request was made to the Safa Council for bonus or extra honoraria was tabled.
Blatter will meet President Jacob Zuma and hand over the Fifa legacy to Safa and the Local Organising Committee in Pretoria on Monday following the country's hosting of the World Cup in June and July.
"It signals that we have done well and will be rewarded by Fifa," said Nematandani.
"We are expecting president Blatter to announce what profit Safa will receive."
He denied that the Fifa would give Safa R2 billion.
"R2bn is a lot of money. I do not think it will be that much, but I expect Blatter to announce what money will come our way from the World Cup."
Nematandani said the money would be used for soccer development.
"We promise to use the money for the future of South African soccer and that means development.
"That is where this money from Fifa will go in trust to the youth of the country and not to the NEC," he said.
